If you are in low income, your state has a Medicaid program that will provide health insurance for you and your family, if your requirements. Medicaid provides health insurance coverage for dental care, eye care, medical care and prescription drugs. If you are not eligible for Medicaid, your next step is to go shopping for affordable health care plan. There are two types of insurance, which offer the most benefits for the least amount of money - HMOs and PPOs:
HMOs (health maintenance organizations)
HMOs for a fixed monthly fee for which they provide medical services, which include doctor visits, hospitalization, surgery and prescription drug coverage. Participants must select a primary car physician who oversees their medical care, and they can only receive medical care from doctors and facilities that are part of HMO in network.
PPOs (Preferred Provider Organizations)
PPOs similar to HMOs that you receive medical prescribed services through a network of doctors and facilities. But unlike HMOs, members do not have to receive permission from their primary care physician to a specialist. PPOs cost about 5% more than HMOs.
